The Ocean and our Coasts - Incredible Opportunities, Growing Dangers

The world's oceans are sources of prosperity and economic vitality: as much as 90% of intercontinental trade is moved by sea. In the sea, people find food, energy and enormous reserves of raw materials. Economic activity in our oceans are continuing to grow and, with them, the economic centers on the coasts.  There are over 3,500 energy terminals located on our oceans and waterways.

At the same time the peaceful utilization of the sea, and the coastal regions are exposed to a diversity of growing dangers. Besides the usual hazards of navigation, other threats - such as terrorism are also on the rise. The oceans and coasts must be made safer for us all.  Visit http://www.dsit.co.il/ to learn how we are helping make the oceans and our coastal infrastructure safe for our future.

OmniMetrix

OmniMetrix is the leading brand and innovator of remote monitoring services for on-site power generators, as well as home back-up generators. Many of these generators serve critical requirements such as hospitals, nursing homes and cell telephone towers. Approximately 10% of installed emergency generators fail to start when needed not due to manufactured quality but field issues like batteries, spark plugs, heater blocks and fuel issues. Constantly monitoring the equipment remotely can ensure the reliability of the back-up systems. While the home generator market is relatively new, approximately 2% of U.S. residences have installed back-up generators and the demand is growing rapidly due to severe storms and falling electric grid reliability.

OmniMetrix has also developed and markets a remote cathodic protection (CP) monitoring system which helps prevent losses associated with pipeline corrosion. Twenty-four hours a day, the system delivers current and historic test-point information directly to a desktop, laptop or phone. OmniMetrix’s CP systems have longer battery life and greater reliability, both features which provide solid, competitive advantages. The energy industry spends $7 to $10 billion annually repairing and replacing corroded steel pipelines. Because of this increasing problem, federal and state regulators are focusing greater attention on the issue. In addition, the U.S. shale gas boom requires a large increase in pipeline capacity which is expanding the opportunity for OmniMetrix.

GridSense

One of the major drivers of the cleantech revolution is the fear that we are running out of oil.  An oil reservoir is considered depleted when 1/3 of the oil has been extracted. The US Department of Energy believes that the use of inexpensive permanent in-ground seismic or 4D sensors, like those developed by US Seismic Systems Inc (USSI) can help extract the next 1/3 thereby improving US energy security.   USSI develops, manufactures and sells fiberoptic sensors for other security and safety solutions like monitoring solar farms, mines and harbors.  Visit http://www.usseismicsystems.com/
